Invisalign Treatment Timeline

Individuals seeking a straighter smile without metal braces can take advantage of Invisalign® at our Orlando, FL, dental practice. This revolutionary treatment option can correct a wide range of orthodontic problems, including overbites, underbites, and crooked, gapped, overlapped, or rotated teeth.

Invisalign treatment requires patients to wear a series of aligner trays for at least 22 hours each day. Every couple of weeks, you will wear new aligners that change in shape or pressure to continually shift your teeth. Dr. Alfredo M. Gapuz discusses the Invisalign treatment timeline so you can know what to anticipate during the process.

Initial Consultation

The first step when considering Invisalign is an initial consultation with Dr. Gapuz. The doctor is highly trained in Invisalign treatment and can establish whether this teeth-straightening option is right for you. During your first visit, he will visually assess the teeth and gums and determine the severity of your orthodontic issues. He will also take x-rays and discuss your personal cosmetic goals with you in detail.

Treatment Planning

Once Dr. Gapuz has gathered all necessary information, he will begin the treatment planning process. This crucial step involves personalizing treatment to meet your unique and specific needs. To achieve this, Dr. Gapuz uses digital impressions of your bite and computer-generated images of your teeth. These will be sent to our Invisalign dental lab, where an experienced technician will fabricate your aligner trays.

Invisalign trays are designed to be as discreet as possible so that you can receive orthodontic treatment without feeling self-conscious about it.

Active Treatment: Wearing Your Aligners

Once your aligners have been created, we will schedule you for another appointment in our office. During this visit, Dr. Gapuz will try in the first set of trays to assess the fit. He will also provide instructions on how often to wear them and how to properly maintain them.

Over the next several months, you will progress through a series of aligner trays, changing them out approximately every two weeks. Each set is designed with subtle differences that will apply gentle pressure and gradually move the teeth into their desired positions over time. To be effective, your trays must be worn at least 22 hours every day. As a general rule, you should only remove them when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Dr. Gapuz will check on you periodically to ensure treatment is going as expected.

Final Results

It is impossible to know exactly how long Invisalign treatment will last, as every case is unique. However, on average, patients complete treatment in about nine to 18 months. During a consultation with Dr. Gapuz, he should be able to give you a timeline estimate.

Each set is designed with subtle differences that will apply gentle pressure and gradually move the teeth into their desired positions over time.

Once the end result is achieved, patients can enjoy a smile that is straighter, healthier, and more uniform. To maintain optimal results for a lifetime, individuals will need to wear a retainer to keep the teeth from moving back into their old positions.
