Stained or discolored teeth can leave your smile looking lackluster. Professional teeth whitening at our Orlando, FL, practice can brighten your smile by several shades in a matter of days. Dr. Alfredo Gapuz provides GLO teeth whitening, which is a combination of in-office and take-home treatment. GLO uses gentle heat and light distributed inside an enclosed mouthpiece to eliminate deep stains. This treatment even works on dulled restorations, lifting stains from your porcelain dental crowns, veneers, or bonded teeth as well.
Common Causes of Dental Staining
Extrinsic stains are primarily due to environmental factors, including tobacco use and dark-colored foods and beverages, such as coffee, tea, and red wine. This type of discoloration affects the outer layers of a tooth. Intrinsic stains, on the other hand, are usually due to trauma, infection, or certain medications, and affect the internal structures of a tooth.
Candidates for Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is an excellent way to eradicate extrinsic stains caused by environmental factors. Because it is a low-risk procedure, teeth whitening is suitable for most patients, as long as they are free from gum disease and extensive decay.
A dual whitening treatment, the GLO system involves an initial in-office treatment followed by at-home sessions.
It is important to note that patients with intrinsic staining may not receive the full benefits of teeth whitening. These individuals may be better suited for alternative treatments, such as dental bonding or porcelain veneers.
How Does GLO Whitening Work?
A dual whitening treatment, GLO Science involves an initial in-office treatment followed by at-home sessions:
During a visit to our office, the bleaching gel is applied to the teeth. Next, a mouthpiece is placed which emits heat and light to activate the gel and enhance the whitening process.
Following your in-office treatment, you will be provided with whitening gel and a special mouthpiece which also applies heat and light. The bleaching process is repeated for eight-minute intervals throughout the day with a typical treatment lasting five to ten days. The mouthpiece is carefully designed to protect the delicate soft tissues in the mouth from sensitivity.
